Scientific Study
Scientific studies conducted to determine the effect of any outside influence on a population is normally done with control groups. Thus, if you wanted to determine the impact of LCD lighting on productivity in the workplace, the researcher would organize two groups pf workers, one with the old lighting scheme and the other with the new improved LCD system. The researcher would then collect the data and do a mathematical analysis to determine if the data were significantly different. The researcher would then be able to state whether or not the new lighting made a difference. If done correctly, the study report would even state the statistical difference between the old and new lighting. In other words, they could state that the new lighting improved productivity by X per cent within a given margin of statistical error. How many of you have read the scientific studies that prove wearing masks, keeping a six-foot distance away from everyone else and staying home have had any significant difference in the rate of COVID-19 cases? There weren’t any studies.
Instead of scientific studies, we had “expert opinion.” Dr Fauci of the US Center for Disease Control and many of his colleges in the World Health Organization changed their minds so many times, I lost count. They finally pretty much agreed it would be foolish to buck the trend, and wearing masks and locking down didn’t do any harm, so mandates became the “scientific truth.” Wearing masks may have been a logical precaution, but lock down/mask up mandates were never scientific.
We had control groups available for the scientific community to study if they had chosen to do so. There was one brief blip on the national news about the different approaches in Florida and California. California mandated lock downs and social distancing, but Florida did not. When the reports found no significant difference in infection rates, the story was quickly hushed up. The control groups were there. Eleven states were pretty much open during the entire pandemic, with no significant difference in the rate of cases as the 39 states that shut down businesses and limited gatherings. Those few scientists who reported their findings were ostracized. The data is there for anyone to see. Closer to home, Idaho allowed citizens to choose whether or not to wear masks. Businesses were open, much different than in Washington. A few weeks ago, my wife and I had two doctor’s appointments in Pullman, two hours apart. We had to drive to Moscow to have lunch. We have a cabin on the Pend Oreille River in Northeast Washington. We were required to wear masks while shopping in Washington. We were not even allowed to bring in reusable bags. Our bags were welcome 100 yards away in Idaho where shopping was relaxed and enjoyable. The COVID-19 rate was virtually the same on both sides of the border. Had scientists been conducting an unbiased study, their findings would have been wearing masks made no significant difference.
Our government was successful, however, in convincing the public that masks, lock downs, and social distancing were combating the virus. Despite the scientific evidence, the public felt safer wearing masks. Social distancing and limited gatherings were the patriotic thing to do. Wearing a mask showed you care. Now with the immunization rate going up and the number of new cases falling, the government has loosened the restrictions. In many places, masks have become optional, but many people are reluctant to bare their faces and quit forcing their breath through two layers of cloth. People feel safer wearing a mask even if they are fully vaccinated and in a group who have all received the vaccine. Wearing masks has never made scientific sense, now it is less logical than ever.
Our government neither federal nor state will ever admit that they destroyed our economy for no reason other than fear. Our elected representatives must portray themselves as our saviors, even though the evidence is to the contrary. People feel safer wearing masks because they have been lied to. Masks and other mandates had no impact on the spread of the virus.
