Conservatives Have a Cance Sans Trump

I am seeing more and more indications that the country is not as liberal as the national media lead us to believe. If the Conservatives can find a suitable standard bearer, they have a real chance to change the political landscape in 2022.

In the aftermath of the Supreme Court decision on the Texas abortion law, a Gallup survey found only 30% of all Americans believe abortion should be an absolute right. These findings were verified by two additional independent polls. Half of Americans surveyed believe that abortion should be legal only under certain circumstances. The liberal press, on the other hand, would have us believe the overwhelming majority of America is prochoice. The polls, however, find an equal number label themselves as prolife. Liberal politicians who base their campaign on absolute abortion rights may be in trouble.

Those whose political identity includes gay rights may also be in jeopardy. A Methodist pastor in Indiana misjudged the LGBTQ+ views of his congregation when he dressed in drag as part of an HBO documentary. Parts of the program were filmed in his church and incited some members to protest his actions. The majority of his flock voted to oust him from his position.

Black Lives Matter and Defund the Police movements are also losing momentum. Cities who have been vocally critical of their police departments find themselves in a crime wave. Even Democrats who denounced police in general are admitting Defund the Police is a big mistake. Black Lives Matter organizers have steadfastly supported Jussie Smollett’s claim of being a victim of a hate crime despite overwhelming evidence the whole thing was a hoax. Their support of Smollett has led many to conclude that BLM has strayed from their original addenda and has become just another forum for reverse racism. In Minneapolis, the birthplace of Black Lives Matter and Defund the Police, a proposal to restructure the police department was soundly defeated at the polls.

If Conservatives are to be successful, however, they must find a new standard bearer. Donald Trump lost the election fair and square. He lost; get over it. Not only did he lose the last election, he will cost Conservatives the next one if candidates don’t cut their ties. Donald Trump generates loyal followers. His supporters are almost fanatical in their belief that he can reshape the country. He also generates opposition and enemies. He went out of his way to make an enemy out of the press. He went out of his way to ridicule the FBI and our national intelligence agencies. He made more enemies than he made supporters. Donald Trump is a jerk and has the diplomacy of a school yard bully, and his enemies can be as rabid as his supporters. Joe Biden is President because he is “anybody but Trump.” Trump supporters will be tarnished with his legacy in 2022.

Politicians who want to take advantage of the conservative majority must find someone who not only shares their patriotic views but who is also “anybody but Trump.”
